The first verse is rock, the second verse borders pop sentiment with the following line:
And he who forgets...will be destined to remember...
However, even if the verses are the meat of the song, they are not the most interesting part. When I looked at the lyrics the first thing that struck me was how the word nothingman can be easily divided into 2 or 3 parts; nothing, man or no thing, man.
Hypothetically, and probably not the reality of the song, it looks like the protagonist is walking, so absorbed in his thoughts that he ends up with a sun burn. However, he has people that ask:
What's going on?
Nothing, man.
No, really, you look down. What's going on?
Nothing, man.
Isn't it something?
Nothing, man.
This behind the scenes coversation happens a few more times, as the protagonist walks. He does not share his concerns about his relationship, and ultimately the burn is like neglect to his physical self, as a possible neglect and burn resulted in his relationship.
