Running Musings - 043007

I ran my base distance, and I ran it faster than my base speed. I don't remember the last time I ran faster than my base speed. This is pretty cool. It's not that much faster than my time from last week, but the time was consistently faster than my base speed. My base speed is the speed that I want to maintain as my slowest. To maintain this particular speed as my base speed means a lot because for a while it was my fastest speed. It's still hit and miss, but today I felt strong, and I think it is realistic that it will become my base speed until I choose another base speed. The last 1/2 mile I ran my base, but then the last .1 mile I decreased the speed a bit.

I'm an advocate for fruit. I ate an entire bag of white cheddar popcorn this morning, and chased it with a cappuccino, and then for lunch has a bagel which I chased with a diet pepsi, and a small bag of peanut M&Ms. I started the day with 2 grapefruit, so I'm not a completely lost cause. Unfortunately, it wasn't rudy red which is what I like so I suffered through it.

Anyway, I didn't feel up to snuff today, and when I came home I immediately threw into the food processor a couple handfuls of strawberries, two bananas, the juice of about 6 lemons, and an apple. I was hoping that it would neutralize all the bad stuff in my body for my run. It worked. I felt very strong running 2 hours later, and I think the fruit had a lot to do with it. Yea Fruit!

As far as songs go, I've decided that Given to Fly will be a part of any dream I accomplish. It is such a tremendous song, and I feel so much joy, that it's not just a great running song, but I'll think of it when I learn a language, or maybe attend graduate school or anything. Born to Run is my life song, but Given to Fly is my goal song. I just love it! Highlights of the run today include Given to Fly, Dirty Frank, and I finished with Sad. Sad isn't the best running song, but since it's one of my favorite songs I'll listen to it anyway. Other highlights included Pat Benatar's Love is a Battlefield, and Kate Bush's Jig of Life.
