Running Musings - 050907

Another great run! I was only 3 seconds slower than yesterday, and it was a 4-mile run. It was faster than the time I set out to run, and I didn't go slower than my base speed. Very cool.

What was ironic to the point of cosmic, is that it was time for the last song. I knew I would finish my run within the next song, and I was definitely ready for it to be over even though I was feeling strong. You wouldn't believe what came on . . . take a guess . . . BORN TO RUN! Considering what I wrote yesterday, isn't that amazing?! I decided someone was looking out for me. I mean Given to Fly as my last song yesterday, so I write a blog about what Given to Fly and Born to Run mean to me, and here is Born to Run as my last song today. Very cool! If it doesn't mean someone is watching out for me it's still a cool way to end a run :)

I did what I noted to myself yesterday, and I thought of the poem I'm writing to help me focus away from whatever makes a run tedious. I thought of some great ideas for the poem, which is cool, because it was already halfway to stalemate. As I was running, it's pretty cool that the things I thought of involved movement; movement out the door, movement away from a room, movement on a bike.

Oh, and I ate a banana and a chocolate espresso white chocolate chunk cookie before I ran, and I think that's why I felt so good. I still remember Mike McCready coming back on staff for the 1st encore or possibly the second in either Boston on E. Rutherford 06 eating a banana. I thought that since he has so much energy, maybe the banana helps. I'm still reading the book on running nutrition, and a carb right before a run is good. Bananas are easier to eat quick than other carbs, so I just eat it, and it works!

There is no way that I'm going to run outside during the summer. I was in an air conditioned fan environment, and I walked outside into thick humidity. It's only May! No way am I running outside. I had heart palpitations last year, and I was running outside, and I think the heat sucking up my electrolytes had something to do with it.
