Running Musings - 122807

I didn't run today as it's in the low 40s and I don't have a hat or gloves. I'll be prepared for the Cherry Blossom Run, but I'm really stressing out about it already. Why should I stress about it? No one truly cares if I run it or not quite frankly except for me. Who can I tell the story to that would care about my time or even if I did it. It's like I'm running for me, but I'm putting a lot of pressure on myself because others aren't doing it. It's kindof bringing me down.

There are many reasons to run not the least of which is that a runner's high is just plain GORGEOUS! It's the closest feeling to thinking that God is right there running with me. It is solitary so it's a form of prayer/meditation for me. Now, that can only go so far as I'm listening to lots of music when I run, and I don't really pay attention to all that's around me. However, during the runner's high I know that the running experience has reached it's pinnacle. At that time it's not the losing weight so I don't have to buy a new wardrobe, and it's not the ammunication I can tell heart doctors. It's truly eclesiastical communication. Which is why running should never bring me down. I'm more likely to be down when I don't do it then when I do, but sometimes I just feel too hot, and I go slow. I should go slow when it's hot, but I don't know how others don't.

2008 will be a running year. I'm focusing on my fruits/salads intake, and I signed up for a 10-mile run. Since I ran 10 miles once in 2007 I feel it will be no problem. However, my 2007 New Year's resolution was to run 12 miles/week, and I made that goal maybe 5 times this year. It's time for a lifestyle change, which sucks, but this is definitely the time to do it. It's time to rein in the chaos, and put a little more order in. The order is really a focusing on what is important. 2008 should be an interesting year.
